Open Short — Privacy Policy

Last updated:

Open Short (“the extension”) is a free browser extension that adds a button to YouTube Shorts pages, allowing users to open the current Short in YouTube’s regular watch player.

What we collect

  • On first install only, the extension sends a single anonymous ping containing the extension’s version number to our analytics server (track.exquex.com, a self-hosted Umami instance). No personal data, browsing history, or YouTube account information is included.
  • We do not collect or store any data about what videos you watch, what you click, or how you use YouTube.
  • We do not use cookies.
  • We do not have user accounts.

What we send to YouTube

Nothing. The extension only adds a button and rewrites the page URL in your own browser. All interaction with YouTube happens through your normal browser session, not through the extension.

Permissions

  • Host access to https://www.youtube.com/* — required to inject the button into Shorts pages. The content script only runs on youtube.com/shorts/* URLs.

The extension does not request any of the following permissions: tabs, storage, cookies, webRequest, scripting, or <all_urls>.

Data sharing

We do not sell, share, or transfer any user data to third parties.

Children’s privacy

The extension does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If we update this policy we will change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Material changes will also be noted in the extension’s release notes on the Chrome Web Store.
