Open Short support

The button sits at the top of the action rail on the right of a Short, above the Like button. If it is missing:

1. Reload the page. When you open a Short from YouTube’s home page or search results, YouTube changes the page without loading a new one, and Chrome does not start the extension. A reload (or opening the Short in a new tab) fixes this.
2. Check that the extension is switched on at chrome://extensions.
3. Make sure the address starts with https://www.youtube.com/shorts/. The button only appears on Shorts pages.

Reload the page and try again. If it still does not work, YouTube may have changed its page layout. Please email us the address of the Short so we can fix it quickly.

No. Open Short is a Chrome extension for the desktop site, www.youtube.com. Mobile apps and the mobile site cannot run Chrome extensions.

No. The Shorts feed works as usual. Nothing changes until you click the button, and then only the Short you are watching opens in the regular player.

Yes. The video opens in the same tab, so the browser’s back button takes you back to the Short.

No. There is nothing to set up: no popup, no options page.

Nothing. It never records or sends which videos you watch. On first install it sends one anonymous count with the extension version, and that is all. The privacy policy has the details.

Right-click the Open Short icon in Chrome’s toolbar (or in the puzzle piece menu) and choose Remove from Chrome. You can also remove it at chrome://extensions. It leaves nothing behind.
