RedirMe URL Shortener Privacy Policy

RedirMe URL Shortener (“the extension”) is a free browser extension that creates a short link on redirme.com for the page in your active tab.

What the extension sends

Only when you click the RedirMe button in the toolbar, the popup opens and sends a request to api.redirme.com with:

  • the address (URL) of the active tab
  • the title of the active tab
  • your guest ID (see below)

The same request is sent again if you click “Try Again” after an error. Like any web request, it also includes your IP address and browser user agent. The short link is stored on redirme.com with the address and title, under your guest ID, as described in the RedirMe privacy policy. Anyone with the short link can open the original address.

Nothing is sent before you click the button, and nothing is sent about any other tab or page.

What the extension stores

The extension stores one value in your browser: your guest ID (redirme_guest_id), a random 26-character ULID. It is not linked to your name or email address. When you visit redirme.com, the extension copies this ID between the website’s local storage and the extension, so links you create on the website and in the extension are grouped together. Removing the extension deletes its copy.

What the extension does not do

  • It does not read the content of web pages.
  • It does not track the pages you visit.
  • It does not run on any site other than redirme.com.
  • It has no analytics, no install ping and shows no ads.

Permissions

  • Active tab: read the address and title of the tab you click the button on.
  • Storage: keep your guest ID.
  • Access to redirme.com and api.redirme.com: create short links and keep the guest ID in sync with the website.

Data sharing

We do not sell, share, or transfer any user data to third parties. Short links are processed by RedirMe, a Smoking Media service.

Children’s privacy

The extension does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If we update this policy we will change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Material changes will also be noted in the extension’s release notes on the Chrome Web Store.
