What is SafePass Guru?

SafePass Guru is the browser extension of safepass.guru, the free online password generator. It puts the same generator right where you need it: in the new password field of the form you are filling in.

How it works

SafePass Guru spots sign-up, password change and password reset forms and adds a small key icon to the new password field. Click it and a strong password is generated and filled in, confirm field included.

No icon on a field? Right-click it and pick Generate password here, or press Alt+Shift+G. Hide the icon on a site from the right-click menu or the toolbar popup.

Passwords are generated with your browser’s cryptographic random number generator (Web Crypto). Choose the length and character sets, or make them easy to say, easy to read, URL safe or filename safe. Prefer something you can remember? Switch to BIP39 passphrases.

Who it’s for

  • Everyone who signs up for things and reuses the same password out of convenience
  • Password manager users who want a strong password generated in the form, before the manager saves it
  • Developers and testers who fill in sign-up forms all day

What it doesn't do

Permissions

Every permission this extension asks for, and why it needs it.

<all_urls>
New password fields can be on any site, often inside iframes. The content script looks for password inputs, adds the key icon and fills the field when you ask. The popup reads the active tab’s address only to show the “Show icon on this site” toggle. No page data is stored or sent.
storage
Keeps the generator settings and the list of sites where you hid the icon in chrome.storage.sync, and the optional recovery history in chrome.storage.local on this device only.
contextMenus
Adds “Generate password here” for fields without an icon, and the per-site icon toggle.
clipboardWrite
Copies a generated password when you click Copy, or after filling when auto-copy is on, and clears the clipboard again after the delay you set. The extension never reads your clipboard.

Privacy first

SafePass Guru collects nothing and makes no network requests. Passwords are generated with your browser's cryptographic random number generator and never leave your browser. No account, no analytics, no server of ours involved.
