SafePass Guru (“the extension”) is a free browser extension that generates strong passwords and fills them into sign-up and password change forms. This policy covers the extension only, not the safepass.guru website.
What we collect
Nothing. The extension does not collect or transmit any personal data, browsing history or passwords to the developer or to third parties.
- We do not use analytics or tracking of any kind, and there is no install ping.
- We do not use cookies.
- We do not have user accounts.
- We do not operate any server that your data passes through.
How it works
Passwords and passphrases are generated in your browser with the Web Crypto random number generator. On the pages you visit, the extension looks for new password fields so it can show its icon and fill a generated password when you ask for it. It writes into those fields; it does not read passwords you type.
Network requests
The extension makes no network requests at all. All code, including the passphrase word lists, ships in the package.
Where your data lives
- Settings: your generator settings and the list of sites where you
hid the icon are saved with
chrome.storage.sync, so Chrome can sync them between your own browsers. - Recovery history (off by default): if you turn it on, the last 10
generated passwords are kept in
chrome.storage.localon this device only, each with the site it was filled on (or “popup” when you copied it from the toolbar popup). They are stored as plain text in your browser profile and are never synced. Turning the history off stops new entries but keeps the saved ones: remove them with Delete or Clear all in the settings.
Uninstalling the extension removes all of it. We never receive any of this data.
Clipboard
The extension copies a password only when you click Copy, or after filling if you turn on auto-copy. It then clears the clipboard after the delay you set (60 seconds by default). It never reads your clipboard.
Permissions
- Access to all websites: to find new password fields on any site.
- Storage: for your settings and the optional history.
- Context menus: for “Generate password here” and the per-site toggle.
- Clipboard write: for copying passwords.
Data sharing
We do not sell, share, or transfer any user data to third parties.
Children’s privacy
The extension does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If we update this policy we will change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Material changes will also be noted in the extension’s release notes on the Chrome Web Store.
