Help with the SafePass Guru browser extension: answers to common questions and how to reach us.
SafePass Guru only adds the icon to new password fields, on sign-up, password change and password reset forms. Login forms are left alone on purpose. When it is not sure, it shows no icon.
chrome:// or on the Chrome Web Store.file:// addresses), turn
on Allow access to file URLs in the extension’s details at
chrome://extensions.chrome://extensions/shortcuts.Some fields set a minimum or maximum length. SafePass Guru follows those limits, so the password can be shorter or longer than your setting. The message “Length was adjusted to fit this field’s limits.” tells you when that happened.
After filling, a Password filled message appears with Show and Copy buttons. You can also click the eye icon in the field, or turn on Always show filled passwords in the settings. If Recovery history is on, the password is also in the settings. Save it in your password manager before you leave the page.
The toolbar popup has a quick Password and Passphrase switch and a length slider. Click All settings for every option: character sets, Easy to say, Easy to read, URL safe, Filename safe, and for passphrases the number of words, separator and language.
Right-click the page and untick Show generate icon on this site, or turn off Show icon on in the toolbar popup. To bring it back, tick it again, or click Enable next to the site under Disabled sites in the settings.
Only when you click Copy, or after filling when Copy to clipboard after filling is on. The clipboard is cleared again after the time in Clear clipboard after (seconds), 60 by default (0 turns clearing off). This is best effort: if you copy something else in another app in the meantime, the extension cannot tell.
No. Passwords are generated in your browser and the extension makes no network requests at all. It writes into password fields but does not read passwords you type. The privacy policy has the details.
The history is off by default. When you turn on Keep the last
10 generated passwords, those passwords are stored as plain
text in chrome.storage.local in your Chrome profile on this
device, with the site they were used on (or “popup” when copied
from the popup). They are not encrypted and never synced, but
anyone with access to your computer and browser profile could
read them.
To clear it, open the settings and click Clear all under Recovery history, or Delete next to one entry. Turning the option off stops new entries but does not delete the ones already saved, so clear them first.
Right-click the SafePass Guru icon in Chrome’s toolbar (or in the
puzzle piece menu) and choose Remove from Chrome. You can
also remove it at chrome://extensions. This deletes your
settings, the list of disabled sites and the recovery history.
Passwords you filled into sites are not affected, so make sure
they are saved in your password manager.
