Tabloid (“the extension”) is a free browser extension that replaces the new tab page with a dashboard showing the user’s configured RSS/Atom feeds over a background photo.
What we collect
Nothing. Tabloid does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to the developer or to third parties.
- We do not use analytics or tracking of any kind.
- We do not use cookies.
- We do not have user accounts.
- We do not operate any server that your data passes through.
Where your data lives
All settings (feed URLs, photo keywords, an optional Pexels API key, and display preferences) are stored in your browser’s extension storage. Cached feed items, your box layout, and background photos are stored locally in your browser as well. Removing the extension removes this data and restores your original new tab page.
Network requests
The extension makes network requests only to:
- The RSS/Atom feed URLs you configure, to download those feeds.
- Pexels (
api.pexels.comandimages.pexels.com), to fetch background photos when you provide your own Pexels API key.
These requests are made directly by your browser. No request ever goes to a server operated by us.
Permissions
storage: stores your settings and caches feed items, layout, and the preloaded background photo so the new tab page renders instantly.- Host access to
https://api.pexels.com/*andhttps://images.pexels.com/*: fetches background photo metadata and images when you provide your own Pexels API key. - Optional host permissions: access to a feed’s website is requested per origin at the moment you add that feed, and revoked when the last feed on that origin is removed. The extension never requests blanket access to all websites, and no browsing data is read.
- New tab override: the core feature; the extension is a new tab page.
Data sharing
We do not sell, share, or transfer any user data to third parties.
Children’s privacy
The extension does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If we update this policy we will change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Material changes will also be noted in the extension’s release notes on the Chrome Web Store.
