Help with the XML Format browser extension: answers to common questions and how to reach us.
chrome://extensions. Version 3.0.0
had a bug that kept the tree from appearing. It is fixed in
3.0.1.chrome://extensions.Chrome does not let extensions run on its own pages, such as
chrome:// addresses and the Chrome Web Store.
Chrome blocks extensions from local files unless you allow it.
Go to chrome://extensions, click Details under XML Format,
and turn on Allow access to file URLs. Then reload the tab
with your file.
This is a known bug: the preview shows raw markup instead of a sample tree. Your settings still work. Click Save Changes and reload an XML page to see them.
XML Format is a rebuild of XML Tree by Alan Stroop, and the banner above the tree still shows that name. It is the same extension.
Double-click a tag to fold it to a single line, and again to expand it. Click an element, attribute, comment or processing instruction and its XPath appears in the Wonder Box at the top. Edit it if you like, then press Get Results to list every match. You can also paste XML into the Wonder Box and press Get Results to show it as a tree.
Click Options in the banner above the tree, or open the
extension’s options from chrome://extensions. Pick your colors,
font, size and display options, click Save Changes, and
reload the XML page.
Put view-source: in front of the address, for example
view-source:https://example.com/feed.xml. Chrome shows the raw
file there without the tree.
No. Your XML is parsed and shown in your browser, the extension makes no network requests and has no analytics. The privacy policy has the details.
Open the puzzle piece menu in Chrome’s toolbar, click the three
dots next to XML Format and choose Remove from Chrome. You
can also remove it at chrome://extensions. XML pages then show
in Chrome’s default view again, and your saved display
preferences are removed with the extension.
