Transcript Download for YouTube (“the extension”) is a free browser extension that saves the transcript of a YouTube video as a file on your computer.
What we collect
Nothing. The extension does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to the developer or to third parties.
- We do not use analytics or tracking of any kind, and there is no install ping.
- We do not use cookies.
- We do not have user accounts.
- We do not operate any server that your data passes through.
How it works
The extension runs only on www.youtube.com. When you ask for a
download, it uses the transcript YouTube loads in your browser for the
video you are watching, builds the file on the page, and saves it to
your downloads folder. If the transcript is not loaded yet, the
extension opens YouTube’s transcript panel out of sight and closes it
again.
Network requests
The extension makes no network requests of its own. The transcript is requested by YouTube’s own page, as it is when you open the transcript panel yourself.
Where your data lives
The only thing the extension stores is the menu language you choose,
kept in your browser’s local storage for www.youtube.com. Choosing
“Automatic” removes it.
Permissions
- Access to
https://www.youtube.com/*: the extension’s content script adds the download button below the video and reads the transcript of the video you are watching. No other permissions are requested, and no other website is accessed.
Data sharing
We do not sell, share, or transfer any user data to third parties.
Children’s privacy
The extension does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If we update this policy we will change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Material changes will also be noted in the extension’s release notes on the Chrome Web Store.
